This newest bike to roll out of Top Shelf Customs belongs to Body Glove Art Director, Mark Kawakami. It was a project that started with a frame that was given to him as a 10 year anniversay present by his wife Elizabeth. Barry ordered a Bill Dodge "Bling" frame and had it ready for the surprise when Mark came back to the shop. When Mark saw the frame he was speechless and shocked as hell.
The next step was to go over the details and plan out how the bike should be layed out. Mark had a pretty clear idea of what he wanted and with Barry's expertise and knowledge Top Shelf got started with the build. The goal was to build a bike that had great lines, perfect body positioning and tons of power to get down the road. Mark wanted to make sure when the motorcycle was either parked or roaring down the road that it had a stance to it that commanded attention.
Barry got the project going and ordered a S&S 113" show polished motor,Baker 6-speed and a BDL open primary. The forks is a Pro One with 6" risers with PM clutch and brake controls and Top Shelf Smasher grips. The tank was hand made by Top Shelf Customs and the fenders are from WCC. Mark chose PM rims with matching rotors and pulley. Barry suggested to go with mid controls for better positioning on the bike and used Top Shelf Smasher mid controls on the bike. It took a while of going back and forth on pipe designs, but Mark and Barry finally came to a agreement on how they should look. Final paint was sent next door to Color Zone where they sprayed the metellic blue, cream white and black with a blue pearl on the tins. Frame was sent out to be chromed and rims and other pieces sent out to get black anodized.
When all the pieces were finished, Al Raposo started with the final assembly. The bike got done in a timely manner and was ready to be fired up and taken out on it's first ride. Mark's vision of his perfect custom bike came to life thanks to Top Shelf's Barry LaCour and Al Raposo. Another satisfied customer out on the road on a Top Shelf Custom motorcycle.
