BACK TO THE SIXTIES, HOT ROD BIKE WORKS MAGAZINE PROJECT

HRBW and Top Shelf Customs had a goal of building a sixties style chopper using as many new products as possible, which meant improving the performance without losing the style.

Barry got things started with a Paughco Rigid frame with a 30 degree rake. The powerplant to role the bike is a Custom Chrome Panhead with Mallory ignition, Matt Hotch oil lines with a RevTech /5/4 transmission, BDL primary drive, Barnett Scorpion clutch with RevTech Case and Gears. The forks are VL Springer W&W Cycles triple trees with a DNA 21x2.15 front rim and Avon Speedmaster tire. The rear tire is Coker Twin Stripe with a 16x3 DNA rim. The bikes stops with PM calipers and rotors with PM hand and foot controls. Headlight is Vintage, cables from Barnett, rear fender is Bossley, fuel tank is a swap meet special and the seat is Bossley. Top Shelf made the tailight, oil tank, handlebars and risers. Chopper Dave donated the mysterious air cleaner for the project. Barry went with a jockey shift on the bike so he and Al Raposo designed front and rear clutch cable guides that allowed them to use the Performance Machine Countour clutch pedal. Top Shelf also made the chrome shift lever. The shifter knob is another one of Barry's swap meet finds. It's a traditional lowrider piece, purple and clear urethane with an inlaid Virgin Mary. It lights up when you turn the bike's lights on. The bike also use a air ride seat by Rigid Aire. Barry also made the upsweep exhaust system with mufflers that were popular in the early days. Barry used a Paughco front squish pipe and made the rear the way he wanted to. Jeff at Hell On Wheels got the set of NOS trumpet upswept mufflers to complete the exhaust system.

After weeks on trying to decide on a paint scheme Barry finally just decided to mix and match some ideas that were sent in by the readers of HRBW. Matt Polasky at Color Zone Design laid down the hard-lined candies faded on top of heavy silver metal flake with a dozen or so coats of tarnished clear.

And there you have it. "El Presidente" by Top Shelf Customs, HRBW and TSC Back to the Sixties project bike. Take a look and see for yourself.
